Free haz-mat dropoff for Rochester, surrounding NH towns set for May 16

ROCHESTER - Residents from Rochester and surrounding communities will have the opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste during the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on May 16. The collection will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Turnkey Residential Drop Off Center, 18 Isinglass Drive, Rochester, N.H. (off Rochester Neck Road). The residential drop-off center will be closed for regular use for the entire day during the event. Participating communities include Barrington, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, New Durham, Northwood, Rochester, Somersworth, Strafford, and Wakefield. Household hazardous waste products are items that can pose a threat to human health or the environment if used or disposed of improperly. These products are typically labeled with warning words such as "Danger," "Warning," "Poison," or "Caution." Residents may bring up to 10 gallons of household hazardous waste to the collection site. Some items will not be accepted at the event, including latex paint, tires, computers and televisions, and motor oil. Residents are encouraged to check with their municipality for proper disposal options for these materials. Officials also remind residents that hazardous products should never be poured down drains or disposed of on the ground, as improper disposal can harm the environment and is against the law.
