ROCHESTER - Firefighters made quick work of a small fire at the City Hall Annex on Friday.
The single alarm blaze broke out around 8 p.m. in the attic of the two and a half story building which was first used in the early 1900s as the town's central fire station and sits close by the city's current central stationhouse on Wakefield Street.
Arriving companies were met with fire on the second floor in the ceiling. Crews made an aggressive attack and put out the fire quickly, containing damage to the area of origin.
The Summer Street building is currently under renovation, and crews have been working on the rehab job daily.
Today the cleanup from fire debris continues with Public Building Department crews.
A single line was used to extinguish the fire, safety officials noted today.
The building sustained approximately $20,000 worth of damage.
An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
Fire crews cleared the scene around 10:15 p.m. on Friday.
