MILTON - A Milton woman is carrying on the legacy of Farmington's Kindness Cabinet which was founded in 2016 to get free food to the needy or those just down on their luck.
Newell Gene Brewer started the cabinet outside of his 499 Main St. home as a way to give back. When he died in May 2018, his wife, Terry, took over the operation.
Earlier this month Tina Bonsall decided it was her turn to have an "adventure to help the community," placing a free food cabinet outside her Ladytinabell Wedding Bouquet shop on White Mountain Highway.
"Anything worthwhile that helps the hungry is worthy of continuing," she said. "I'm doing this as a tribute to what Mr. Brewer started."
Bonsall said on Sunday she completed her first weekend of the food giveaway and got several folks who needed food and many that came out to lend their support, too.
"I was very happy that so many in the community came out and donated groceries," she said today.

Bonsall's shop is located at 184 White Mtn. Hwy, and the food cabinet is just outsider her door.
It will be open from Thursday through Sunday during her regular business hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It's not a self-serve food cabinet, but anyone who needs food is welcome to come to her showroom door for assistance in getting what they need.
Donations of food or gift cards can also be dropped off during business hours, she said, adding services such as Instacart and Sam's Club also deliver.
The food cabinet is seasonal and will be closed from Dec. 22 till April 15.
