SOMERSWORTH - A Farmington man who left the scene of an accident in March may now face drug charges after his vehicle was impounded and police later found thousands of dollars worth of fentanyl and cocaine.
Somersworth Police first got involved on March 27 around 8:20 p.m. when they were dispatched to the area of Winter Street and Rocky Hill Road for a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole and left the scene.
Upon arrival officers were given a description of the vehicle and searched the area, quickly locating a vehicle matching the description and conducting a traffic stop, according to a release on Tuesday from Somersworth Police.
The operator was identified as Kyle Leavy, 38, of Farmington. He was taken into custody and charged with Driving After Suspension as a result of a DUI and Alcohol Interlock device. During an inventory search of the vehicle, before being impounded, the officers located evidence of drugs and money. Leavy was released on personal recognizance bail with a court date of May 5 at Dover District Court.
Police were granted a search warrant for Leavy's vehicle on March 31, and found in it a substantial amount of suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine with an approximate street value between $6,000 and $7,000.
Additional charges are forthcoming, according to police.
