DOVER - A Strafford County jury on Monday found a former Rochester man with a prolific record of prowling and peeping Tom-type offenses guilty of criminal trespass near the UNH campus in Durham in 2021.
The two-day trial sought to overturn an earlier conviction for criminal trespass in the area of 77 Saratoga Circle in Durham on Oct. 29, 2021.
Christopher C. Crosby, 52, of Mountain Road, Cape Neddick, Maine, a lifetime-registered sex offender, has seen at least 36 convictions over 25 years from lewdness to indecent exposure to felonious sexual assault.
The Durham charge he was appealing is a misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in county jail.
Crosby's last arrest by Rochester Police came in June of 2017 on prowling and violations of privacy misdemeanors.
Police first became involved in that incident after a caller on Lincoln Street told dispatch a little after 11 p.m. that he and a woman had seen a suspicious man looking through several windows at a nearby residence.
When officers arrived the subject was gone, but officers soon found a man matching a description given on Knight Street where he was interviewed by police.
The couple who had called in the incident later identified Crosby, who was then taken into custody.
Crosby, formerly of 10 Myrtle St., Rochester, was charged with one count of violation of privacy and one count of prowling, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said at the time of the arrest.
Crosby's sentencing will likely come over the summer.
