Elks fishing derby hoped to hook a few forever fishermen

The Rochester Elks #1393 conducted its annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday at the Farmington Fish and Game Club in New Durham.

The event was open to children and grandchildren of Rochester Elks Members.

Eighteen kids ranging in age from 5 to 12 signed up to compete. Registration started at 7:30 a.m., and the Derby kicked off at 8 with the National Anthem being sung by Elks member Leslie Dale.

During the contest, a surprise visit to the site was made by the "Superheroes" who showed up on their motorcycles to visit the kids. Elroy the Elk was also in attendance. Fishing was paused for a brief time so the participants could visit with these famous celebrities. Special thanks to Elks member Bill Lemelin for his "Superhero" Support.

Fishing concluded at 11 with over 50 fish caught by contestants.

A barbeque lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, desserts and soft drinks were served, and then the winners and participants were announced:

Age Group 5-6: 1st Fish Ashlynn Trepanier; Biggest Fish Boyd Partridge. Other participants were as follows :Regan Rosatti, Otto Laporte, Lincoln Partridge, Owen Spiers, Penny Allen.

Age Group 7-8: 1st Fish Matilda Hudson; Biggest Fish Brynn Trepanier. Other participants were as follows: Colton Hudson, Mekia McNevin, Zack McNevin, Nora Laporte, Lucas Trepanier, Abigail Beaulieu, Logan Allan.

Age Group 9-10

Age Group 11-12: 1st Fish Saide Codair, Biggest Fish Elise Trepanier.

All children received complimentary Fishing Derby T Shirts and Elks drug awareness program coloring books. The Elks Drug Awareness trailer was on site with Elroy the Elk presiding. This was due to the coordination of Lodge Trustee / Past Exalted Ruler Mark Guilmett , Esteemed Lecturing Knight / Drug Awareness Chair Deanna Souza and Emblem Club President / Elks Member Kelly Kasprzyk. Chairman for the Derby was Esteemed Leading Knight Matt Sanborn. Our Exalted Ruler / DD South Jerry Skidds was also instrumental in coordinating aspects of the overall event.

Elks Volunteers for the event were as follows: Matt Sanborn, Beth Sanborn, Jerry Skidds, Jim Clark, Deanna Souza, Mark Guilmett, Kelly Kasprzyk, Peter Meyer, Scott Welch, Harry Tagen, Jan Tagen, Kevin Dale, Leslie Dale, Joe Cormier, John Stevens and Julie Stevens.
