ROCHESTER - The woman shot in what police are calling an attempted murder and suicide remains in critical condition at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, a spokesperson said today.

Kristine Halsey, 45, was shot by her husband, 47-year-old Brian Halsey, around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday before he then turned the gun on himself, police say.

Rochester Police first responded to 2 Sunrise Drive after a woman called 911 and said she had been shot by her husband who then committed suicide.

When Rochester Police, Fire and paramedics arrived at the home they found Kristine Halsey had sustained serious injuries. Brian Halsey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rochester Police say the couple's three children are staying with family out of town. Police also said they had never been called to the house before Tuesday.

A worker at Great Bay Kennel of Durham where Kristine Halsey worked said on Wednesday they were devastated by the news she had been shot.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," said the employee who didn't want to be identified.

Police are still awaiting autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
