Confirmed COVID cases rise to 214 in NH, dozen in Strafford County

CONCORD - The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services announced the presence of 27 new positive cases for COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total in the state to 214.

The percentage of hospitalizations stood at 15 percent with 33 undergoing treatment at medical facilities; and deaths at two, about 1 percent, both in line with predictions made by health officials in the fast-developing coronavirus outbreak.

In Rochester only one resident - City Councilor Doug Lachance - has tested positive. Lachance was released from a Boston hospital last week after a five-day stay. He has been declared noncontagious and continues his recovery at home.

Strafford County has recorded 12 positive, with Rockingham County including Portsmouth the hardest hit with 86.

The new cases recorded on Saturday include 17 adult females, nine adult males, and one male under the age of 18.

The new cases reside in Rockingham (11), Hillsborough other than Manchester and Nashua (4), Merrimack (3), Grafton (2), and Strafford (1) counties, and the cities of Manchester (3) and Nashua (3). Eight of the new cases have no identified risk factors, meaning they were likely community based.

Three of the new cases were hospitalized for their illness. The total number of persons being monitored in New Hampshire is around 925.

Meanwhile in Maine, 211 cases have been reported, including 120 in Cumberland County, the hardest hit; and York County, the second-hardest hit with 38.
