Concord man succumbs to injuries following rescue from smoky blaze

CONCORD - A Concord man is dead following a smoky fire that erupted Thursday afternoon on Lantern Lane.

Firefighters responded around 3 p.m. after reports came in from neighbors that alarms were sounding from the residence at 10 Lantern Lane.

Upon arrival Concord firefighters found a smoky on the exterior of the building, without visible fire, according to a Dept. of Safety press release sent out late Thursday. When firefighters made entry into the home, they found a lone victim inside. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Positive identification of the victim and cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy, which will take place at the State Medical Examiner's Office today.

The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is active and ongoing by members of the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Concord Fire Department.

The state fire marshal reminds all citizens of the importance of having working smoke alarms in their home. In the event of an alarm activation or visible smoke or fire, immediately exit the home and call 911. Keep exits clear and accessible at all times and have a home fire escape plan.
