ROCHESTER - The city of Rochester is setting its sights on a third fire station.
Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan brought forward the resolution during a Special Meeting on Tuesday prior to the council's workshop.
The resolution entails a supplemental appropriation of $299,000 for the purchase of 181 Highland Avenue.
The 6.46 acre parcel is located to the north of Route 202 near the intersection of Highland and Eastern avenues. It includes 635 feet of road frontage along Route 202.
Rochester City Manager Blaine Cox told The Voice that the city has been eyeing available property in East Rochester for a long time.
"The Fire Department has indicated for many years that a third fire station should be located in East Rochester," Cox said on Monday. "We have been simply keeping a watch out for suitable parcels, and this one is ideally located."
A zillow.com listing notes the land is under contract.
The item will now go to public hearing which is scheduled for July 5.
