LEBANON - A Forest Ranger on Saturday visited the scene of an almost four-acre West Lebanon woods fire that fire crews from eight towns battled much of the day before.

Lebanon Fire and EMS Chief Dan Meehan said on Saturday that the area of the fire was south of the gravel pit situated a few hundred yards east of Prospect Hill Road.

The fire was called in by a pilot for Skydive New England who spotted the flames around 4 p.m.

Residents in the area had spotted and smelled smoke earlier in the afternoon around 2 p.m., and firefighters were alerted but were initially unable to find the blaze.

Lebanon firefighters were on scene much of the day on Saturday keeping an eye on smoldering hot spots. Meehan said they would be returning today and perhaps Monday as well.
An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
