LANCASTER - A body found in the Connecticut River last August has been identified as Gorham resident Alberta Leeman, who was last seen in July 1978, according to a State Police statement released on Friday.
At the time of her disappearance, Leeman was 63 years old.
Her body was found in the Connecticut River in Lancaster on Aug. 6.
DNA testing compared a sample of Leeman's relative to the human remains found within the vehicle registered to Leeman. The testing confirmed her identity.
A state medical examiner deemed Leeman's manner of death was an accident from a motor vehicle crash, and the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. The events surrounding her death are not considered suspicious.
