EXETER - A Massachusetts man is on the mend today after his motorcycle crashed on Route 101 late Friday.

State Troopers responded around 11:15 p.m. to Route 101 East near the Exit 9 off ramp where they found that a 2013 Harley Davidson FLHX motorcycle operated by Shawn Fleming, 24, of Weymouth, had been traveling on Route 101 East when the motorcycle veered off the left side of the roadway.

The bike then entered the center median and struck a guardrail, throwing Fleming from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the travel portion of the roadway, according to a Dept. of Safety press release sent out this morning.

Several passing motorists stopped at the scene of the crash to render aid to Fleming till rescue arrived. Initially, a DHART helicopter was dispatched to transport Fleming but was not utilized as he was ultimately transported by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Route 101 East was closed from Exit 8 in the Town of Brentwood to Exit 9 in the Town of Exeter and traffic was diverted for around two and a half hours while Troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel worked to facilitate the removal of the motorcycle involved along with the associated debris.

At the request of the New Hampshire State Police - Troop A Barracks, the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
