Keene teenager gets 27 years to life in fatal shooting

KEENE – A Swanzey man was sentenced on Wednesday to 27 years to life in state prison for the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts man last June 25 in a Keene parking lot.
Thomas Pickford, 18, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty to reckless second-degree murder.

Christian G. Walker, 17, of Orange, Mass., died of a single gunshot wound to his abdomen the morning of July 25, 2025.
Pickford was a minor when the shooting occurred and his identity was revealed for the first time during Wednesday’s sentencing.
One the day of the shooting Pickford had gone to the Riverside Plaza in Keene to return items to his ex-girlfriend, according to prosecutors.
Walker was with her, and after returning the personal items, Pickford drove away slowly while shooting several times at the car the victim and former girlfriend were in. One bullet struck Walker in the abdomen killing him.
