A man wearing body armor and armed with a handgun was arrested on Lafayette Street on Friday after police were called to the scene by a witness who said they heard a group of individuals talking about beating someone up and noticed one was holding the weapon.

When Rochester Police arrived at the scene around 3 p.m. they found a male fitting the description given by the caller.

"The male noticed police and began walking away," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today. "Police then noticed the male was wearing a holster, and he was ordered to stop."

Pinkham said the male continued walking away and tried to flee inside a residence, but police quickly caught up with him and he was soon detained.

The man was identified as Remy Lopez, 34, no known address. Lopez, who is a convicted felon, was also found to be wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm reported stolen to police earlier this month.

As Lopez was taken into custody he was also found to be in possession of controlled drugs.

He was charged with felon in possession of a dangerous weapon (Felony), receiving stolen property (Felony), felonious use of body armor (Felony), possession of controlled drugs x3 and resisting arrest/detention (misdemeanor).

Lopez was held on no bail pending his arraignment later today in Strafford County Superior Court.
