DOVER - I have never gone wrong getting one of Applebee's scrumptious salads, and they didn't disappoint again last Thursday when I shared a Strawberry Balsamic Chicken salad with my granddaughter, Rylee.
Applebee's chefs just seem to know what ingredients complement each other in a salad.
This iteration comprised mixed fancy greens, vine ripe tomatoes, red onions, large flavorful cubes of breast meat, sliced almonds, fresh strawberries and a drizzle of balsamic glaze served with lemon olive oil vinaigrette on the side.
Rylee was all in on this delicious dish, but have to say the strawberry slices were her fav.
The tartness of the red onions worked beautifully with the sweetness of the strawberries.
Meanwhile, the chicken cubes, of which there were many, added a savoriness to the plate that completed the culinary trifecta of sweet, tart and savory.
It came with a footlong bread stick that Rylee absolutely devoured, which was fine with me since I'm gluten sensitive.
One disappointment was the service, however, as we were waited on by several different servers after the waitress who took our order never appeared again. And no one came by to see if everything was OK till long after we'd been served.
Doesn't mean I won't be back. The food and prices are that good. The salad was humongous at just $12.99.
Another thing that ticked me off was Rylee was playing with this little remote game thing on the table, which I didn't know could run up a bill. It was only a $1.99, so I guess I got informed for a small price. I'll know better next time.
