WELLS, Maine - Careless disposal of smoking materails is being blamed on a Wells fire that left a multi-apartment complex in rubble on Monday.

The fire was reported around 7:40 p.m. on Sanford Road.

The Wells Fire Chief reported that several units were involved in the fire. Residents inside the building were able to get out safely and no injuries were reported, according to a Tuesday release from Dept. of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
