New Hampton woman's gunplay leads to felony arrest

NEW HAMPTON - A New Hampton woman has been arrested on multiple charges, including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.

The incident unfolded around 9:45 a.m., on Saturday when State Troopers responded to reports of a suspicious person on 33 Waukewan Road in New Hampton. Troopers responded and identified the suspect as Vanessa Cooke-Case, 50, of New Hampton, who was served with a no-trespass order.

Later in the day around 4 p.m., Troopers returned to the area for reports alleging that Cooke-Case was verbally threatening neighbors in the area, according to a release on Sunday from the Attorney Generals Office. Troopers arrived and began investigating the alleged threats. They remained in the area, following up on investigative leads.

A few hours later Troopers responded to 343 Winona Road in New Hampton for reports that Cooke-Case was shooting a firearm into the air. Troopers responded, took Cooke-Case into custody and secured the area.

Cooke-Case was arrested on felony charges of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and simple assault. Cooke-Case is being held on preventative detention at the Belknap County jail, pending her scheduled appearance in Laconia District Court today.
