ROCHESTER - The second suspect in last month’s armed robbery of the Milton Road Shell was taken into custody on Sunday after police nabbed him fleeing a Congress Street residence around 2 p.m.

Police said the public helped in locating Brandon Hamel, 18, a transient who had a warrant out for his arrest in the June 25 robbery that began a string of robberies at the isolated convenience store a couple of miles south of the Milton line.

Hamel tried to elude police by sneaking out the back of the residence, but police had set up a perimeter and took him into custody peacefully.

Hamel refused bail and was transported to the Somersworth Police Department to face charges from their department in connection with the beating and robbing of a pizza delivery driver last month before being taken to the Strafford County Jail.

He will appear for arraignment today in Rochester District Court.

Hamel is alleged to have toted a shotgun in the gas station robbery, while the other suspect, Jonathan Wilson, 21, of 288 Blackwater Road, allegedly brandished a long-barreled pistol.

He was arrested earlier this month and also charged with felony armed robbery and is being held at the Strafford County Jail after refusing bail.

The June 25 robbery occurred around 5 p.m. as two armed suspects entered the gas station and convenience store, confronted the clerk brandishing guns and demanded cash.

The brazen daytime robbery occurred as several customers were in the store shopping.

The store was robbed again on July 5 by a lone suspect who threatened the clerk with a knife before leaving with cash and more recently three men who robbed the store of cash and beer last Monday.

Wilson is also a suspect in the Somersworth pizza delivery man beating, along with a third suspect from Somersworth.
