ROCHESTER - Rochester's 4th Annual Blues/BBQ Festival is all set for today despite any threat of showers.

Forecasters call for cloudy skies with a possible pop-up thunderstorm, especially as the show winds down around 4 p.m.

The fest takes place on North Main Street at the Cocheco Riverwalk.

The Blues Festival features local jazz singer Linda Pouliot, along with Kerri Powers, Deep Fried Blues and the Threedom Blues Band. Blues legend James Montgomery and his band are the featured performers from 2-4 p.m.

A special BBQ cook off is being organized by Leone, McDonnell & Roberts, PA that includes a "People's Choice Award" of a $100 cash prize and plaque. Judging will take place for best chicken, pulled pork, ribs and brisket offered. A $5 sampling badge entitles the first 150 people to vote on the Peoples Choice event, with proceeds benefitting downtown Rochester promotions.

Participating restaurants are: Lilac City Grille, Happy Pappy's Country Store and our newest downtown restaurant, Revolution Taproom & Grill.

Also this year, Smuttynose Brewing is hosting a hospitality garden throughout the day. Volunteers are still needed to help during the festival.

More than 40 food vendors, artists, crafters and other assorted booths will line North Main Street along with a bounce house and face painting for children. Downtown businesses are also encouraged to participate by coming out onto the sidewalk on North Main. Vendor forms are available online at http://www.rochestermainstreet.org/.

There is a suggested $5 donation to support the festival and free parking is available in the City Hall, Congress Street, Columbus Avenue, and Union Street Municipal Parking Lots.

Festivalgoers can also take part in the Rochester Arts & Culture Commission's Sidewalk Chalk Art display on the Rochester Riverwalk.

Traffic will be re-routed onto River Street and Bridge Street from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. the day during the event.

The 4th Annual Blues and BBQ fest is sponsored by DF Richard Energy.
