LEBANON - A one-car accident at the intersection of Rochester and River roads backed up traffic on both roads Monday after a passenger in the vehicle said the brakes failed and the car landed in a deep ditch.

The passenger said the vehicle, a 1991 Honda Civic, belonged to his mom but an acquaintance of his who left the scene was driving at the time of the crash.

Another bystander at the crash site complained of a slick road.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. and Milton Rescue was the first to arrive on scene, later advising Lebanon Rescue they weren't needed.

There were no injuries reported.

When responders arrived a pickup truck was getting into position to pull the vehicle out of the ditch, but Milton Rescue and later Lebanon Fire personnel advised that Maine State Police we en route and not to move the vehicle. The truck and the two men in it soon left as did Milton Rescue.

Maine State Police Trooper Michael Pappas interviews an occupant of the crash vehicle on Monday afternoon at the corner of Rochester and River roads.

When Trooper Michael Pappas arrived he interviewed the remaining occupant of the Honda, who said the driver had left but he didn't know where he'd gone, but that the driver was not hurt.

Neither the passenger left on scene nor the man who was supposedly driving was immediately identified.

A call to State Dispatch late Monday night to determine whether any charges were filed was not returned.
