Police on lookout for Lafayette Street shooter

ROCHESTER - Rochester and State Police are on the lookout today for a man who shot a teenager in broad daylight Tuesday on Lafayette Street.

The single shot rang out around 11:30 a.m. and drew an immediate response from lawmen to the area of 42 Lafayette St., where an unidentified 19-year-old sat on the front stoop with a bullet wound to his chest.

The teen was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with injuries that were described as life-threatening.

Police say the shooter fled on foot toward the downtown, and while law enforcement scoured the area and searched several nearby buildings, he remains at large.

The shooter is described as a black man in his 20s, thin, with shoulder-length dreadlocks. At the time of the shooting he was wearing a gray shirt and long jean-style shorts.

He should be considered dangerous, police warned, but added they don’t believe there is any threat to the general public.
