LEBANON - A citizen's petition seeking a revote of the Nov. 4 ambulance referendum was distributed today to several volunteers who will be knocking on doors throughout town looking for signatures to bring before selectmen as early as Monday.

About 220 signatures are necessary for selectmen to move forward with a revote on the ballot question, which organizers of the petition have said was poorly worded, steeped in legalese and caused many to vote against their own intentions.

The ante on keeping the ambulance was recently upped as surrounding towns are set to impose a $2,000 surcharge to the town on any ambulance runs made into Lebanon in which they are the sole responder.

The towns set to impose the surcharge are said to be Sanford, Milton and North Berwick as well as Frisbie Hospital in Rochester.

The petitions will be available for residents' signatures at Martha Sawyer Community Library at the Hanson School on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and volunteers will be crisscrossing the town throughout the weekend looking for more.

To sign the petition, one must be a registered voter in the town of Lebanon.

If you have questions about the petition or want to get involved contact Lebanon Voice editor Harrison Thorp at 207.432.2218 or thelebanonvoice@aol.com.
