MILTON - Amanda Randall, a Nute High School alumni who graduated in 2006, returned to Nute High School on Monday to give back to the school by sharing with students in the Essentials of Athletic Injury Management class.

The class, taught by Physical Education teacher Karen Johnson, is based on learning about athletic training and other careers in sports medicine. Johnson invited Randall in to share her real life experiences as part of the authentic education curriculum being implemented at Nute.

Showing students that Nute alumni can be successful is important to many teachers at Nute, especially Nute graduate and teacher Karen Johnson.

"Amanda shared her sentiments of graduating from Nute, a small community where she was able to receive individual attention from teachers who cared about her and her future," Johnson said.

Randall is now employed by SPTA, in Boston and works in the afternoon at Boston Latin School as the head athletic trainer. Randall talked to the class about her experiences at Nute High School and how they prepared her for her college life and career.

"Amanda shows true passion in her work," said senior Erin St. Lawrence. "You can really tell that she loves her job."

Before leaving Nute, Randall demonstrated how to tape an ankle, the most common injury an athletic trainer has to handle. After demonstrating the ankle taping, St. Lawrence and junior Connor Bradway had a "Tape Off" to see who could tape an ankle the fastest, and most accurately. St. Lawrence won by a vote of the class. The students all agreed Randall's visit was an inspiring success.
