GONIC - Maria Lachance, 93, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, after a period of failing health.
Maria was born in St. Eugene, P.Q. Canada on August 31, 1921, the daughter of Willie and Angelina (Caza) Laurion and lived most of her life in Gonic. Before her retirement she worked at various shoe factories in the area. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she loved music and dancing. She was the widow of John D. Lachance who died in 1997. She was also predeceased by her brothers Florian, Lucien, Josephat, Edward and Richard, and her sisters, Eva, Alice, Therese and Lucienne.
Surviving members of the family include: two sons, John J. Lachance and his wife Roberta and Normand Lachance and his wife Sylvia, both of Gonic, two daughters, Bernadette Scarponi and her husband Leo of Rochester, and Teri (Therese) Hurley of Gonic. She also leaves ten grandchildren, John CD Lachance, Anthony Scarponi, Gena Veno, Jeff Lachance, Tania Shorey, Stephanie Lachance, Sheila Walter, Andrea Fountain, Sarah Turner and Jessica McNamara, ten great-grandchildren, Brett and Derek Veno, Louise Lachance, Krystal and Brandon Ford, Taylor Weston, Lauren Turner, Jacob and Jaclyn Wallingford and Amanda Court, as well as a stepsister, Lorraine Theroux of Rochester, a sister-in-law, Louise Laurion of Ocala, Fla., two brothers-in-law, Jerome Lachance and his wife Virginia and Ronald Peavey, both of Rochester, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
