James W. Steeves ... enjoyed restoring gas pumps

ROCHESTER - James W. Steeves, Jr., 71, of 94 Milton Road died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Waterville, Maine, the son of James Steeves, Sr. and the late Christine (Poulin) Steeves.

Jim was a professional truck driver with Mayflower for 40 years. He was a graduate of Waterville High School. He had a passion for restoring old gas pumps, clocks and neon signs and has friends all over the country from his truck driving and restorations. He was known as the "Pump Dump". Jim enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his brother and friends. He never knew the word "no"; never met a stranger and his favorite word was "sure". He was always there to help anyone.

Members of his family include his wife of 38 years, Betty (Grassie) Steeves of Rochester; his father of Fairfield, Maine; brother, Jeff Steeves and wife Tina of Belgrade, Maine; sisters, Evelyn Boston and husband Larry, Waterville, Maine, Jill Bard and husband Bert, Fairfield, Maine, nieces, Julie Bard, Jodi Handley, Becky Boston; nephews, Jim Millette and Jason Bard, Ricky Sweet, Kevin Sweet, all of Maine and several great nieces and nephews; his dog "Toby". He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregg Steeves.
