ROCHESTER - Jetpack Comics and Rochester Main Street volunteers are busy with final preparations as several thousand comic book fans are expected to gather to celebrate National Free Comic Book Day on Saturday in what is thought to be the largest Free Comic Book Day Celebration in the Northeast.

With over 20 businesses participating and nationally recognized artist David Peterson (of Mouse Guard fame) in addition to Ed Dukeshire appearing , this year promises to be better than ever.

The day begins at 10 a.m. when fans can acquire their participant maps at Jetpack Comics or download them online at www.jetpackcomics.com. Using the maps they can then proceed to visit more than 20 participating businesses and organizations to collect a free comic book.

In addition to the ongoing quest for comics, there will be an Exhibition Hall at the Knight of Columbus and guest artists are available to sign their work. The Union Street parking lot behind Jetpack Comics will play host to booths from Papa Gino's, Lebanon Scouts, Relay for Life, Usborne Books, Tupperware Seacoast Peace Response and Cormier's Sugarhouse, Happy Pappy's Country Store on Portland Street and Cocheco Equipment Company on Signal Street will be cooking up a storm of grab and go treats. First United Methodist Church and First Church Congregational will be hosting yard sales beginning at 8 a.m, and students from Cocheco Arts & Technology Academy will hold court in Central Square with interactive activities.

Participating businesses and organizations include At Peace Body Arts, Skele-Tone, Collec-Tiques, Studley's Flower Gardens, First United Methodist Church, The Garage at Governor's Inn, Dos Amigos Burritos, Rochester Public Library , Tri-City Bicycles, Revolution Taproom & Grill, RiverStones Custom Framing, Laurel Mae's Cottage, Lilac City Grille, Happy Pappy's Country Store, Cocheco Equipment Company, Bella Fresca, The Cast & Grind, A Formal Affair, Crosspoint Church and Union Street Antiques and Collectibles.

The Cocheco Equipment Company will also be hosting an Open House on Saturday with special offers, demonstrations, and a concession stand. Rochester's Free Comic Book Day runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m..
