'He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love.' - Martin Luther King Jr.

We think more than anytime in recent years we need Martin Luther King Day this particular year.

And as we remember Martin Luther King we should remember his legacy, a legacy of nonviolent, peaceful protest to promote the civil rights of all people.

And if we could hear his voice - and anyone that grew up in the '60s or has studied his works should be able to - we should ask ourselves where would he stand today on the issues of race relations in America.

There are those who would say blacks in American have greater opportunities now than they ever have.

Others might say there are still huge disparities in the opportunities that are available.

We will leave that question to those who claim to be experts.

Instead, we choose today to concentrate on the man, himself, and hear his voice.

What would he have said about today's "Civil Rights movement."

Would he have urged protesters in Ferguson, Mo., to torch the city, turn over police cruisers and loot local businesses?

Would he have signed off on protesters strapping themselves to concrete barrels and shutting down the Interstate 93 in Massachusetts last week endangering the lives of safety personnel, motorists, first responders and the victims they transport?

Would he have fomented anti-cop sentiment to the point that borderline psychopaths and criminals would be inspired to shoot down New York police officers in cold blood?

Finally, would he have advised Eric Garner and Michael Brown to not comply with police officer's orders during arrest situations?

The voice of Martin Luther King Jr. that I hear says "No" to all of this.

We hope everyone will reflect on the greatness of Martin Luther King Jr. today, read about him, talk about him and be inspired by his mantra of nonviolent protest in the face of overwhelming obstacles.

They worked back then, and they will work again today.
