Granite State Choral Society and Interim Music Director Daniel Roihl are excited to present a Gala Dinner Concert, "River Stones, Rails, & Renaissance: A Rochester Retrospective" on March 28 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Governor's Inn in Rochester.

This event is the highlight of Granite State Choral Society's 40th Anniversary year celebration. The evening will be MC'd by renowned magician and entertainer BJ Hickman. The festivities will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, 50/50 raffle, live auction, and culminate with a live concert premiere of the newly commissioned work "Rochester." Tickets to the Gala are $65 per person.

"Rochester" is a five movement composition that is a musical celebration of Rochester's history. It was commissioned by Granite State Choral Society and composed by Concord, N.H.-based, Grammy-nominated composer Nicholas White.

As only the second known registered choral society based in Rochester over the last 100 years, GSCS decided to honor the city's history in song to celebrate their 40 years of choral performances. Not since the early 1900s has a musical piece been created to honor the city. "Rochester" highlights historic persons, events and landmarks of Rochester using original text written specifically for the work by two members of GSCS.

The Granite State Choral Society (GSCS) held its first concert in the fall of 1974 performing Handel's Messiah as the fulfillment of citizens' desires to have a community chorus present in the city.

The Granite State Choral Society is a non-auditioned community chorus dedicated to presenting quality choral performances, ranging in styles from classics to Broadway, and to promoting the appreciation of the choral arts. The members come from all walks of life from ages 12 and up, and range from experienced singers to novices just discovering the joys of choral singing.
