Johnny A.

With a guitar that sings, Johnny A. appears in concert at the Rochester Opera House on Saturday, May 16 at 8:00 PM (Doors 7:00). With a blend of styles from rock to jazz to blues mixed with a masterful use of the guitar's whammy bar, Johnny A. is one of the finest contemporary guitarists. Johnny played with many renowned musicians including Mingo Lewis (Santana), Doug Clifford (Credence Clearwater Revival) and Bobby Whitlock (Derek and the Dominos), before his seven year stint as guitarist and musical director with The J. Geils Band front man Peter Wolf. In 2010, Johnny received the Boston Music Award for Blues Artist of the Year. In addition to producing and mixing his recent release Driven, Johnny also plays all the instruments on the album.

Portsmouth-based Wooden Eye opens with their unique mix of blues, rock and roll, folk and country that create an Americana sound that is their trademark. The band is Bob Halperin on guitar, mandolin, vocals and diddley bow, Dan Maclellan on bass, Mike "Bullfrog" Rogers on harp and vocals and Joe Rogers on drums.
