AUGUSTA - Employees of Central Maine Power will be contributing their time and energy to community agencies across Maine on Saturday as part of parent company Iberdrola's fifth annual International Volunteer Day. Employees join their Iberdrola USA co-workers in New York and Iberdrola colleagues in Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Mexico to give back to their communities.

"CMP has built a rich tradition of volunteerism over many years, generously contributing to the success of many organizations and causes," said Sara Burns, president and CEO of CMP. "Our employees' work on International Volunteer Day will build on that tradition."

CMP and Iberdrola USA employees will be participating in the following community service projects:

Portland Trails: Portland Trails is a non-profit land trust that preserves green space for public access and connects people with places, and is dedicated to creating a network of trails in Greater Portland that is available to everyone free of charge. Volunteers will work on a section of the Presumpscot River Trail, which is sponsored by Iberdrola USA and CMP.

Camp Sunshine: Camp Sunshine in Casco provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child's illness. The year-round program is free of charge to all families and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Volunteers will coordinate children's activities at Camp Sunshine's annual Pumpkinfest at L.L. Bean in Freeport.

Augusta Food Bank: Employees will help organize food donations, stock shelves, and do general cleaning at the Augusta Food Bank.

The Iberdrola International Volunteer Day activity follows United Way fundraisers and food drives that have been happening at locations across CMP's service area.
