PORTLAND, Maine - The Rochester man seriously injured 10 days ago in a rollover crash on the Spaulding Turnpike remains in fair condition at a Maine hospital, a spokesperson said today.

Lawrence Douglas, 37, the driver, sustained life-threatening injuries and was Medflighted to Maine Medical Center in Portland soon after the crash the evening of April 15.

Since the crash Douglas' condition has been upgraded from critical to serious and on Friday to fair.

A passenger in the car, 54-year-old James Gosselin of Rochester, died at the scene.

Police say the accident occurred when Douglas' Subaru Forester
appears to have been traveling southbound when it lost control, struck the center concrete barrier, traveled off the right side of the roadway and rolled over several times in the area of Exit 15.
At this time it appears that speed may have been a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation.
