BOSTON - Boston's Back Bay is as charming an area of the Hub as you'll find with a plethora of gorgeous architecture, fine boutiques and trendy artisan shops to peruse.

It is also fraught with fine restaurants where you can enjoy either indoor or outdoor seating to choose from.

One of the more up and coming eateries in Boston is American Joe's Bar and Grill, which is located at 181 Newbury St. at the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth.

Once inside our hostess took us to a back room that had high ceilings and a 100-foot viewing area into a busy kitchen teeming with prep, sous, grill and fry chefs working smartly alongside one another.

(We kept looking for a Chef Ramsey to yell, "It's raw," but it never happened.)

In fact, the food was not only well cooked, it was absolutely delicious, from the New England Clam Chowder ($6.90 a cup), creamy and chock full of clams to the three-bean chili ($5.40 a cup), topped with partially melted cheddar cheese.

The chili, was especially good, very thick, not to tomato-ey and just the right mix of meat, cheese and beans.

The classic reuben ($13.90) came with corned beef that was flaky, tender and very juicy, with sauerkraut that complemented, not KO'd the corned beef and swiss.

The fries that came with it were generously cut, golden brown and loaded with flavor.

And don't forget to eat the pickles. They tasted homemade.

The service was well above average and attentive, with drinks coming out immediately and dinner in about 12 minutes.

Our server was charming, but be ready for others that may be overly fawning. We heard several that were making us gag, figuratively of course.

Joe's American Bar and Grill has several restaurants throughout New England and New Jersey.

The Lebanon Voice gives Joe's American Bar and Grill three and a half of five stars.
