DOVER - The Strafford County Sheriff's Office today announced a Strafford County Access to Recovery Day to be held on Dec. 13.
The first-of-it-kind event to help drug addicts and others affected by addiction is being offered in in partnership with the Police Chiefs of Strafford County.

At the event counselors will be available to assist those looking to find resources and help. This support could range from finding out where to receive individual/group counseling and support, to those who need to be admitted into a residential treatment program to begin their recovery process. While admission into residential treatment may be warranted it cannot be guaranteed. Facilitators on hand will work to provide participants with the knowledge and resources necessary to take the next steps towards their recovery or to provide friends and family with resources to assist them in helping their loved ones.
There will also an "Amnesty Box" where attendees are encouraged to bring any illicit or prescription drugs or paraphernalia to be turned in anonymously with no questions asked. Items such as drugs, needles, spoons, smoking pipes, bongs, etc. may all be turned in and will be disposed of by local law enforcement.
In an effort to make Strafford County a safer drug free community, no one turning in drugs or paraphernalia at this event between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be prosecuted by law enforcement.

The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Conference Rooms A, B and C. Attendees can enter through the main entrance and look for signs directing them to the individual rooms.

Parking is best on garage levels 3, 4 and 5.
The event is free and light refreshments will be available.
The Chiefs of Strafford County and the Sheriff combined recourses and created The Strafford County Drug Task Force in July. The Task Force is made up of police officers from the cities and towns assigned to the unit. All towns and cities have a liaison officer connected to the Task Force, which targets local drug problems with enforcement efforts in a joined approach.
